We know that Facebook has already an all-in-one app for all the iDevices. While most of us have been using the Facebook chat service inside the app, we may also want to try the latest addition of Facebook’s standalone Messenger. This is another recent move in line with company’s enhancing Facebook services for users.

Although the Facebook Messenger is currently available for U.S. residents only (at this time), users outside the U.S. may also download the latest Facebook Messenger if they have a jailbroken iPhone through Installous.

Are you wondering why Facebook has come up to this idea? First reason was, Facebook have purchased Beluga (Beluga app developer) recently this year. If you are familiar with that app, you can see a lot of similarities with the Facebook Messenger. Perhaps another reason why Facebook is making a standalone service is because of their aim to compete with other messaging services, while maintaining their soaring Facebook Website, especially about their plan in providing video calls through Facebook.

The new Facebook Messenger app works almost the same with other competing instant messaging services like logging in through your Facebook account which then shows your Facebook friends and contacts so you can send instant messages as with the all-in-one Facebook chat service. Aside from the basic chat service, users can also send group messages by selecting multiple people from app contact lists. Location services are also added by selecting the iDevice’s location features which you can send to your friend in just a single tap.

Because of Facebook’s vast user base service, many users might switch from the standard SMS service provided by different carriers to Facebook Messenger which would greatly reduce costs for all customers.

What do you think the Facebook Messenger will affect its main all-in-one app?
